Moving refrigerators, washing machines, dryers and other heavy appliances on stairs requires more than matching the load to a headline capacity number.
Start with the appliance, not the headline capacity
Establish the actual load weight first. Use the appliance data plate or manufacturer documentation for the exact model and include any packaging or attached components that remain with the load.
Then check whether the stair climber has verified stair-specific evidence for that load. A machine can have a high overall rated capacity without supporting that same weight in every stair-climbing configuration.
Four checks before choosing a stair climber
- Load weight: know the real weight before comparing machines.
- Operator count: verified limits can change between one- and two-operator use.
- Load position: use manufacturer-defined load-position zones only when the actual setup matches the corresponding definition.
- Stair and landing geometry: capacity does not guarantee that a bulky appliance will clear the staircase, turns or landing.
What our verified PowerMate data currently shows
For an evenly distributed load, our verified records currently show a 450 lb stair-load limit with one operator for both the PowerMate L-1 and M-1. With two operators, the verified evenly distributed limit is 650 lb for the L-1 and 1,000 lb for the M-1.
Those are contextual stair limits, not a claim that every appliance below the number is automatically suitable. Load dimensions, securing method, stair geometry and manufacturer instructions still matter.
Before narrowing models, use the Stair-Fit Checker to precheck verified load and width constraints against the staircase you plan to use.
Why capacity and stair limits are different
Powered Stair Climbers does not assume that a refrigerator, washer, dryer, furnace or other appliance is suitable merely because its weight falls below a machine’s rated capacity. If the required contextual stair evidence is missing, our selector reports insufficient evidence instead of guessing.
